Karaniya Metta Sutta – Buddhism
‘Karaniya Metta Sutta which is often referred simply as the Metta Sutta is the Buddhist discourse found in the Sutta Nipata and Khuddakapatha. Ten verses in length, the Metta Sutta extols both the virtuous qualities and the meditative development of metta (Pali), traditionally translated as loving-kindness or friendliness. The event that led to the recital of Karaniya Metta Sutta follows as when the Buddha was staying at the town of Savatthi, a group of monks, having received subjects of meditation from the master proceeded to a forest to spend the rainy season (vassana).
